Animal Behaviour and Training Council
Dogknows is proud to have been recognized as a Practitioner Organisation for the Animal Behaviour and Training Council
We are the only dog walking and training franchise in the UK to offer franchisees the opportunity to become a registered dog training instructor.
The Animal Behaviour and Training Council is the regulatory body that represents animal trainers and animal behaviour therapists to both the public and to legislative bodies. It is the only animal welfare charity that is primarily concerned with protecting the psychological welfare of animals undergoing training and behaviour activities.
It sets and maintains the standards of knowledge and practical skills needed to be an animal trainer, training instructor or animal behaviour therapist, and it maintains the national registers of appropriately qualified animal trainers and animal behaviourists.
It promotes the welfare of animals in their interactions with humans, lobbying for humane methods in training and behaviour modification, and for the education of the animal owning public.
How it works
The Dogknows pathway to becoming a registered Animal Training Instructors (ATI) with the ABTC is incorporated into our franchise training programme and business procedures, which ensures a consistent, high level of standard throughout each Dogknows operation.
Franchisees are invited to begin working towards registration following a minimum of 18 months in business but can take up this option at any time afterwards. All franchisees are supported throughout this process.
The Dogknows process requires franchisees to demonstrate their level of knowledge and practical dog skills by completing the Dogknows Canine Learning module and a series of observations. In addition, annual Continual Professional Development (CPD) and an evidence trail of the work they do, is required. We provide an online platform to make all of this easy to do.
Individuals are then able to use the ABTC title and branding alongside their name and are listed on the ABTC register.
